DYMON NAMES EDWINA FREEMAN AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER TO LEAD THE NEXT CHAPTER OF GROWTH AND IMPACT

NASHVILLE, TN — DYMON (Dynamic Young Minorities of Nashville), a youth-serving nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls through mentorship, leadership development, and equitable access to opportunity, proudly announces the appointment of Edwina Freeman as its new Chief Executive Officer. Freeman, a widely respected nonprofit leader, strategist, and community advocate, was selected following a national search and has now officially stepped in her new role as of July 1, 2025.

Freeman joined DYMON in 2019 and has played a pivotal role in strengthening its programmatic reach, operational systems, capital investments, and culture of community engagement. With over 15 years of experience in nonprofit management — including youth development, capacity building, and volunteer initiatives — she brings both institutional knowledge and a bold, future-focused vision to the organization’s next chapter.

“It is an incredible honor to lead an organization that embodies equity, transformation, and generational impact,” said Freeman. “As a direct beneficiary of afterschool programs and community resources growing up in Detroit, I know the power of safe spaces and intentional mentorship. At DYMON, we aim to cultivate an ecosystem that embraces learning through curiosity, innovation, confidence, and joy — all while centering youth voice and youth choice in everything we do.”

Freeman is known for her intersectional leadership, collaborative spirit, and proven ability to mobilize people and purpose. She has earned regional recognition for her work, including being named a Women Who Rock Nashville – Organizational Impact nominee, recipient of the NAZA Community Leadership Award, and featured in the Tennessee Tribune. She currently serves on the board of the Sexual Assault Center, and Nashville’s Youth Health Equity Committee and has provided consulting support to several nonprofits seeking guidance on board development, strategic planning, financial sustainability, program design and evaluation.

“Edwina’s appointment reflects our unwavering commitment to DYMON’s mission and marks an exciting step forward for the organization,” said Tiffany Lee, DYMON Board Chair. “Her depth of experience, proven leadership, strong community ties, and passion for youth development make her the right leader for this next chapter.”

Freeman’s leadership builds upon the tireless efforts of DYMON’s founder, Brittany Tyler-Bowers whose vision, dedication, and unwavering belief in the potential of every girl laid the foundation for the organization’s work today. “We are deeply grateful for her legacy and inspired by all she has poured into the lives of youth across Middle Tennessee,” Freeman added.

In 2020 Freeman developed a Summer Enrichment Programming at DYMON  and it has been transforming lives ever since.  This summer, DYMON successfully hosted a no-cost, full-day summer program for at-risk youth — offering a safe, joyful, and enriching learning environment during the most vulnerable hours of the day for families with limited resources. Programs like this affirm DYMON’s mission to create spaces where girls are seen, supported, and prepared to thrive.

Freeman’s work is deeply rooted in Nashville’s youth development landscape. She previously served as the inaugural consultant for Nashville’s Vision for Holistic Youth Development & Integration —  a citywide framework designed to help young people build the skills they need to succeed in school, careers, and life. This body of work continues to guide systems-level collaboration for youth success in Nashville today.

As CEO, Freeman will focus on scaling DYMON’s mentorship model, expanding strategic partnerships, increasing investment in trauma-informed youth development, and deepening the organization’s reach across Davidson and nearby counties.

“We are at a defining moment,” Freeman said. “Recent federal pauses in afterschool funding have placed critical services at risk. But at DYMON, we are pressing forward — locking arms with our partners, amplifying youth voices, implementing innovative strategies, and protecting the programs that change lives.  When we equip girls with access, mentorship, and sustainable investments, we don’t just shift individual trajectories — we transform entire communities,” Freeman said. “That’s the work I’m called to lead. And DYMON is the vehicle.”
